Gary and Betty Burley began farming in 1981 with a small heard of 18 cows on 100 acres. Today, East Hill Creamery milks 700 cows. Their five children grew up working the farm and today, four of them are still actively involved in the farm.
700 cows managed in a rotational grazing system. The milking cows walk back and forth from the pasture to the milking parlor twice a day. The animals are allowed to graze from mid April through November.
They began making cheese in the spring of 2015, pursuing a life long dream. They settled on French alpine style cheeses to emphasize the flavors in their milk derived from the grasses, herbs and flowers that their animals eat in the pasture. All cheese is made on site.
