Rochester’s First and Only Year-Round Local, Sustainable Food Share

GFC-email-header-springThe Good Food Collective Closes Seasonal Gap By Offering Rochester’s First and Only Year-Round Local, Sustainable Food Share The Good Food Collective is helping Rochester build a more durable and ecologically sound food economy by kicking off its year-round membership share program with the new Spring Membership on April 11th April 8, 2013, Rochester, NY -- The Good Food Collective membership program is entering its 5th season connecting individuals and families in the Rochester area with local, sustainable food. The Good Food Collective is the flagship project of Headwater Foods, a collaborative effort born out of a desire to make more effective, efficient and affordable connections between local farms and Rochester consumers. Taking inspiration from Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs around the country, The Good Food Collective offers year-round multi-farm membership programs that connect Rochesterians to local, sustainable foods from some of the best farmers in our area. Beginning with a Summer Membership program in 2009, the Good Food Collective grew from 100 initial members to 800 in 2012. A Winter Membership program was added in 2010 with 150 members and grew to 400 this past season. Two share sizes are offered, allowing members to choose based on their individual or family needs. In addition to the vegetables and fruits included in the share, members can purchase speciality shares of beef, bread, cheese, chicken, coffee, egg, fruit, pasta, pork and yogurt. The Good Food Collective anticipates welcoming 1200 members for its summer season and is continuing to grow, evolve and innovate to close the seasonal gaps that have been a challenge to a consistent and sustained supply of local food in our area. Beginning in April with its new Spring Membership program, The Good Food Collective will offer Rochester’s only year-round local, sustainable food share. That means that members will now have all-season access to sustainable, local food via Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter memberships. Equally important, the Headwater Foods partner farms will have a year-round source of revenue. This is a significant step toward closing the seasonal gaps, creating a more efficient and convenient local food system, and building a more durable and ecologically sound economy around food in Rochester. Headwater Foods will kick off the new Good Food Collective Spring Membership program on April 11th. The distribution team and its Green Truck will be at 100 Alexander Street, the parking lot of Boulder Coffee, in the South Wedge from 4-6PM for this first weekly Spring distribution. The pilot Spring Membership is sold out, but 2013 Summer Membership shares are still available. Please contact Renee Stetzer or Chris Hartman for more information or to schedule an opportunity to catch the Good Food Collective, its partner farms or its membership community in action.
